Does anyone have a cost effective solution for a radar reflector - you know, those metal snowflakes that hang from an upper shroud or the likes. I'm going to be in freighter infested waters this summer, and have been told I should have one. What's the

I carry one aboard, but don't use it unless I'm in fog, etc. I simply run it up the pennant halyard to the spreader. I use an aluminum "snowflake", put for real cost effectiveness, Practical Sailor said years ago that the "emergency" cardboard, metallic

if "cost effective solution" means cheap then check out
www.defender.com they offer a gov't surplus radar reflector
for $4.95

Duane what happens if your in the fog ???? Situations arise here in the San Juan islands that realy make it a good idea to enlarge your visable radar profile. Even if its only a galvanized bucket run up the spreader lanyard.

The easier it is for a freighter to see you the better. A chance meeting with one in the dark or fog can spoil a whole weekend. The ships in Puget Sound are suprisingly quiet and quite fast.

Mental Floss came with a Davis reflector permantly mounted

Still seems the Davis Echomaster comes out on top. One thing I learned is that the orientation/angle that you mount it
