I am starting a new post to answer a question asked by Bruce aka ClamBeach. I thought it would be of interest to all suffering crews out there who don't hold quite the zeal for sailing that the dedicated folks who post and share here have. The plaque in question was presented to my wife by Hobie Fleet 162 in Waco, Texas in 1977. We were newly weds, just out of college and 1800 miles from home in California. Purchasing the Hobie 16 and getting involved with the fleet gave us a great bunch of friends and made life in Waco shall we say 'interesting'. Here is what is written.
My Job It's not my place to run the ship the horn I can not blow.
It's not my place to say how far the ship's allowed to go.
It's not my place to chart the course nor even toll the bell.
But let the damn thing start to sink and see who catches HELL!!!!
I'm not sure where this plaque will go back up in the boat, but I am sure that it will be present in order to keep me humble and reminded of others needs and comfort while sailing.
