We have a 2003 250 WK, and are looking for a bimini top as an add-on. Can anyone recommend a vendor in the Atlanta/ N. Ga. area? We heard of a guy in Brunswick, Ga, but the rumored price is $900. Seems high, but we have no frame of reference. Thanks.
I have shopped for a bimini for the 250 and been similarly surprised at the cost. Amazingly $900 is in line with the two estimates I rec'd (one from 'The Canvas Store' and one from another vendor at the AC Sail show). Even though the parts are relatively inexpensive, the job is essentially custom work. One issue to make sure that you clarify with any vendor is the EXACT location of your backstay since this varies by year and is obviously critical for the design of the bimini / placement of any zipper.
Also ask for a window that can zip/snap closed (avoid the greenhouse effect at anchor). Will make masthead viewing easier! Without one prepare to strengthen your neck muscles( as you lean back and out and up around the sides of the bimini)
Check out the Optional Equipment thread on the 250 Forum down to about page four. $900 is not a bad price for a bimini if it is stainless steal. My bimini ended up around $1200 as I remember and it was shipped to me. It is the most useful improvement I've made on the boat for Texas sailing.

Not just year by year....hull number by hull number. According to a canvas maker I spoke to at AC, the height of the split in the back stay is not consistent.....he suspected that the riggers use whatever length they have available for the upper part, and then finish the bottom part as needed to fit. This all of course to minimize waste.....drove him nuts he said.
I don't know if this will help and is not meant as a boast, the bimini's we get for the C25 costs in the neighborhood of $300 or 3 Boat Units. I ordered mine from Catalina Direct, maybe they have something that is better priced. The C25 has a backstay also, we just don't bring the bimini back as for and that could be another option for you. $900 seems pretty steep unless you can get them to put in a removable front window to make more of a dodger.
