I'm planning on a new 250 wk purchase this Spring, and wanted to ask the group a couple of questions:

* how flexible are various dealers on price? How much can it generally be negotiated (without resorting to fisticuffs)? I'm looking for recent experiences, in this economy...

* how important is it to have a local dealer with a good rep? Is that worth some additional buckazoids on the purchase?

Thanks, folks!

The end of last August my local dealer, (the only one for a long long way) sold a nicely equipped WB with TrailRite trailer and a Nissan 8hp for just under $25k he sold a nicer equipped WK for $27K. I am under the impression that the new boats this spring will be a $3k more.

Kevin, the number one item is a trustworthy reputable dealer. One with those traits will be willing to meet with you on a deal and back it up with service. I ordered my 04 WK in July after six different purchase orders. My dealer has been excellent with service and most important in communicating my requirements to Catalina. The boat drive out the door price was little under 33K. I did have a C25 to trade so actual was 27K. The best time IMHO to buy a boat is the same as a car, just before the new model hits the showroom when the dealer is trying to reduce inventory. You being in CA. should make it easier for service, especially if you live close to Woodland. Good luck, welcome to the forum and if you get a new boat someone will pay your first year Association/Mainsheet dues.

Kevin,

Price is always negotiable.

Price will depend, a lot, on options.

Teak sole, Wheel Steering, Wing Keel, Trailer... will add, add, add...

Pick your boat, get a quote and negotiate.

Back when (2000), my dealer negotiated almost 15% from where he started.

Dealer quality/ personal support is critical. Dealer should launch, commission and test sail with you prior to final payment.

Good Luck,

JKEY

Or you can buy a tested late model that has over $5,000 of upgrades and a trailer:
