I received delivery of my 2003 WB (Hull #673) on Friday. As usual there are a few issues that need to be addressed by the broker but all very minor. She will be sailing in Charleston, SC this Summer. I'll send pictures soon.

One question, could anyone please send me a parts list for the pop top support storage modification? Any thoughts about which of the modifications has worked best? I've only been on the boat two days and that blasted thing is on my nerves!!!!

Thanks

A search will show a couple of locations used. One in front of the companionway steps and another around the forward hatch. Some have used stainless broom type clips available at marine supply locations while others have made hangers from plastic materiel. Your choice of location and hanger type.

A possible consideration is which berth is to be used as the primary berth. Store the bow above the other though either location will not impinge much.

Thanks Arlyn. What is the length of the screws that you used? I'm worried about the thickness of the fiberglass in each of these locations. I think after looking at it closely today I would like to arrange it just as Gary Rex has shown in the technical tips section. I guess I'm just being extra cautious with a new boat, but would like any guidance that any of you could give me about the thickness of this area of the boat

I drilled two holes in the rear berth bulkhead just larger than the support bar and as high as possible. It slides in an out and the curves in the support bar keep the bar tight and 4" away from the bulkhead, so access cover to the aft storage still functions.

Nathan,

The liner is at least a half inch from the hull... and is about 1/8 inch thick so some sheet metal screws about a half inch long should do fine. I see in the tech tip that Gary used home center variety clips and I'd suggest getting stainless that will hold their shape better and won't rust.

I was going to use Gary's location as well but when cruising store lots of stuff in the aft berth so decided to avoid any possible need to move stuff to get the bow.

We mounted ours at the companionway steps. A functional location, after cruising a few times, realized a perfect spot for hanging dish towels to dry. Loving this boat more and more!

We also set up a mount at the companionway steps; however, we find setting up the pop top tent to be a hassle & have not used in in a couple years even on our week-long cruises.

I agree that the pop top is some hassle and we also don't use it all the time, preferring a simple mosquito net covering the open companionway. When the weather turns nasty with rain however, the pop top cover is very welcomed, even though it often requires intentional effort to get it dried well before storage. Its a great cruising amenity.

I followed the techs tip and installed mine in the aft berth using plastic clips I located in the local Home Depo. One downside we've found - guests tend to view it as a hand rail and snap the clips off when they try to pull themselves up by the pop top frame.

Oscar,Arlyn, where did you find those white, plastic holders you used to secure the pop top bow?

Thanks,

I made a custom table, using the legs of the formica monster, and used the "starboard" brackets.......
