My ISP was recently sold to another so I am having to create a new email account . . . before I delve into MSN's elusive/endless online help - anybody here have an understanding why one would lose their email history and address book when establishing new email account(s). This seems to occur when you receive an email from MSN (which apparently detects new email addresses entered onto the www) welcoming you to Outlook Express.

As with most computer questions, you have not provided enough particulars to really identify the problem. If you have been using Express in the past then you would not get he "welcome to OE" message, that only happens when you launch it and set it up for the first time.
If I had been using Outlook Express and needed to change my email address I would open "tools/accounts" and simply add my new account info, after that it would check that new account every time I checked mail. I would also delete the old account at the same window that I added the new account. It will not toss all of your old stuff. What you describe sounds like you launched a very different version of Express that did not see your user info. Worst case you may find your old stuff in a non active folder or you may need to "import" the data from your old user profile.

You may have been using Outlook in the past and have now attempted to setup Outlook Express you would get the message welcoming you to OE.

Before you create the new account you could save all of your email history into a file for back up just in case something unlikely were to happen. To save the historical email I would have Outlook archive everything...it will create a file called Archive.pst in one of the Outlook folders.
