I think I have water under the cabin sole of my "81SK. There is really no significant water in the bilge where the pump is, ( in my boat that is on the port side beneath the cockpit), however that doen't seem to be the lowest point of the hull. Has anyone experienced this?. I'm considering installing an inspection plate or two, but I assume there are some support stringers under the sole, which I really don't want to damage.Has anybody installed inspection plates in this area?
The lowest part of my 78 bilge is up near the base of the table. (With "L" shaped or Dinette Model). On my boat there are two factory access plates fitted into recesses molded in the floor on the portside... or I can go down through the table base to get water out of that side of the bilge.
Unfortunately there's no way to pump out any bilge water trapped on the starboard side of the swing keel 'ridge'.
I think somebody posted on this before and suggested fishing some tubing down along the keel trunk from the openings near the keel winch. (one under the sink and one from the quarterberth) to pump out these areas.
Yeah, I have the same problem on my 79 SK. I asked a few times for help here, and got none. Just "where is the water coming from" responses.
Well, I've pretty well fixed the pump out problem. I found a "super sub" bilge pump at Boat US. It is very small. 6-8 inches long, but only about 2 inches high, and 2 inches wide. It mounts horizontal.
I cut an access hole in the stringer just starboard of the winch cable. I pushed the "super sub" pump way up forward in the starboard bilge. Seems to work fine.
