It appears that I will become the owner of an '83 Hunter 25 fixed keel this weekend. The boat is in excellent shape, has central air, comes with a trailer, and is only $4000.00. Most important of all, it is in the water & ready to sail.
It has become obvious to me that I will not be able to restore my '79 TR/SK Cat 25 anytime soon. I bought it when I was stationed in Atlanta, and had lots of free time on my hands. Now that the Army moved me back home to Texas, all my free time goes to building a new deck, adding a room on the house, building a fence, etc. Kite is sitting forlornly on her trailer, gutted and ready for restoration. Spring is here, Lake Amistad is full of water, and I can't bear the idea of a boatless summer. So, I'm defecting to a Hunter.
The hardest part of my decision was the thought of giving up this site, and the help and encouragement you all so freely offer. The Hunter forum doesn't seem nearly as friendly, and there aren't as many replacement parts & upgrades available for the H25, or as much technical expertise to call upon.
If I had my druthers, I'd keep them both. I'd berth the Cat and the Hunter side-by-side, use the Hunter as the "mother ship", and leave the Cat stripped down for racing. I could go out and play, while my wife and daughter hung out in the A/C, or fish off the docks. Alas, it is not to be. Project boat, anyone?

Randall, You may be the brunt of some good natured, well mostly, ribbing, but dont abandon this site. As far as I'm concerned you would still be welcome

Congrat's on the Hunter, but I wouldn't exactly classify your move as a defection...Moving to a powerboat...Now THAT'S defecting!!!
And, like it has been said, feel free to remain on the forum and if you want, still be a dues paying member of the association...We'd even let you hang the C25/250 burgee from your Hunter.
I just moved up to a 1987 Cal 28 (the cozy cabin was irresistable), but I can't imagine giving up this forum. I don't know of any other site where so much good sailing knowledge is readily on tap...
Enjoy it, Randall--being out there with a happy crew is what's most important. Now, I can't wait to see your new signature line appearing on the forum...
