This weekend was our 28th.Annual Fiesta Regatta (Fiesta is a 10-day long San Antonio city-wide drunken party...also the only place in the Ccountry where the parade floats actually do...)
I regret to say that, due to the inclement weather (forecast was for severe thunderstorms both days), the PHRF fleet didn't show, so we had to match race a J-24....despite having the A-crew we got our heads handed to us on a silver platter, 4 losses out of 4 races (we had to bail on the last race because of a stuck jib halyard - turned out it had jumped the sheave ). The J had a new technora/kevlar 155% jib (but kept his 174 PHRF based on a 110%...go figure!) and it was no contest. The closest we got was to finish only 40 seconds behind...I think I'll call a PHRF Meeting...
However - the bright spot was that Steve in his C250 finished waaay ahead in 1st place in the Cruiser Fleet with 4 bullets and a 3rd. He had his boat cooking He beat 3 Beneteaus (30' - 33'), a C30,
a Chrysler 22, a Starwind 223,and a Hunter 31.
Good going Steve! I was very impressed!

Thank You Derek!
My Crew Bob Stalbird and my self really jelled. We had a bad start the 1st race and played catch up to finish third, then with lots of concentration we nailed the next 4 starts and broke out into clear air. Only in the last race did we have to work hard at the finish to beat the Catalina 30. The 2nd-4th races we jumped out ahead and gained all the way to the finish. We beat a Starwind 22, chrysler 22, Catalina 30, Hunter 31, Beneteau 321, and a Beneteau 331. Here are three pics:
1. A close Start..You can see all the boats behind us:

2. Accepting the 1st Place trophy:

3. Me & my crew Bob Stalbird (who I dedicated this race to since we have been racing together for over 2 1/2 years):

4. A Sunset to Start the Regatta:

It is not the tropy that counts, it is everything you do to get there that does,
Steve
