I finally had the time to take out the companionway stairs & it was as easy as most of you said it would be!
Since the stairs are out I got a good look at the winch. It has alot of rust on it and part of the frame is bent. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as where to get a new one and are there different types or sizes I could use that would make cranking it up easier.I order mostly from Catalina Direct but I wanted your expertise before doing anything.
The one CD sends is a Fulton and I agree it's the most heavy duty one around. Also it's convenient that all the bolt holes are in the right place. Comes with a heavier handle than the old (original) ones.

The CD winch doesn't "come with" a new handle. The handle can be purchased for an additional $58. Seems like a lot, but it is a custom part that has to have a special adapter weleded to it because the winch is mounted under the stairs.
