I finally got around to trying to make a pencil trace of my hull number ... it's too worn, and the tracing isn't readable. So, I copied down the numbers/letters, and here's what mine looks like, as far as I can tell: CTYK0068<font color="red">*</font id="red">77F
I can't tell what the character is supposed to be where I put the "<font color="red">*</font id="red">" above ... it looks like a square ... I suppose it could be either a "D" or an "O" or another zero ... does anyone have an idea of what it could be, and what it means?
I searched the Forum for this topic, and I finally found a thread on it ... however, there are no posts beyond the original question. I know Don Lucier answered what each character meant, but we seem to have lost it to cyberspace.
Don ... would you please go over this again?
Thanks!

According to my research on the subject, the "<font color="red">*</font id="red">" in your hull number is likely an "M", which denotes that Catalina was using the model year method, which was acceptable before August 1, 1984.
I have never seen the ID number on my hull and I have owned it for nine years. My state is now requiring it for registration. I imagine I will find it right where it is supposed to be now that I know where to look.
