So we went out looking for a sparring partner on Saturday afternoon. Only other boat out was a J105 - so we followed it around. We had to give him three points. It was only that close because I'm not sure he knew we were out there!
Anyone in Maine want to spar? We'd like to play with someone more of our planet.
Well - It was blowing in the mid-20's, which is typical around here this time of year. We were carrying double reefed main and reefed down headsail. On reaches we were seeing boat speed near 7 knots. (I don't want to re-ignite the top speed debate but GPS was saying ~6.8 and occasionally as high as 7.4 on reaches in both directions, so I know it wasn't just the current). Kemah - the 105 - was flying full sails and being single handed. And was sailing so damn fast I'm not sure _any_ amount of handicap was going to matter. Those things really move! And this is the winningest 105 in the area.
Jokes aside I would estimate at least twice our boat speed. I want one! Just have to find a spare $150,000 lying around.
