Where's the best place to buy the lower part of a shroud turnbuckle (the part with the toggle jaw)? Hey, the wife and I were practicing raising the mast in a high wind, and were paying more attention to the winch strap than the shrouds!
West Marine has a 5/16 part, but it seems to be about an inch longer. Would that make any real differences?
Before raising the mast, use rubber bands to tie off the shrouds to the lifelines so that the turnbuckles are in the correct orientation. This will keep the turnbuckles and toggles stright up and down, and as the mast gets close to horizontal the rubberbands will break.
Yeah - that's what I did the *first* time. Then, the winch strap started to slip off the block and twist on the drum (mast moving in the wind), and we paid all our attention to that - and forgot about the turnbuckles.
Sigh. Live and learn!
Pix of my new baby next week! (cat 250 wing keel, "wait for me").
I am not sure where I got this from I think on here but the best I have found was zap straps. Straping the turnbuckles together. It works great and is there when you need it.
