I just replaced the forward thru-hull fitting using 3M 5200 as the sealant. It says that it is tack-free in 48 hours and full cured in 7 days. It's been 48 hours and I am wanting to get back in the water. Does anyone know if the full cure will continue if the seal is submerged? I can wait another day if I need to, but I will put in before the weekend. Anyone had experience with rushing the cure time? Steve Perry #5883, "Love & Luck"
Moisture is supposed to help the curing process, but I don't know what effect the bit of water pressure would have on the curing sealant. The instructions on the sealants I've used said to mist it with water in low humidity to hasten the curing.
The other thought that comes to mind, did you tighten the thru-hull completely or are you allowing it to cure before final tightening?
John, I have tightened it a little more than hand-tight. Probably have a little more tightening to do and I still have the ball valve to install and the hoses. Should I wait until mostly cured to do all that? Steve Perry #5883
