Got my new mainsail from Joe Waters of Waters Sails in Columbia, SC...He put in a flattening reef grommet for me. I know many here use the flattening reef...How is it best set up?

Also, I will be putting in the bulletproof internal outhaul system from Catalina Direct over the weekend...If anyone has any experience with this system and has insider pointers, they would be appreciated.

By the way, if you are looking for a fast main, Joe knows what he is doing. Cross cut dacron, set the boat up for me much like he does his Cat 22, and I've been kicking butt since. We have a LARGE Wed night series (43 boats) on Lake Norman... We've got 24 boats in non-spin and since getting the new main have been beating the Pearson 28's, the Ranger 28, the Merit 25, the Erricson 33, etc. fairly regularly.

Since you are going internal with your outhaul you are in a perfect situation to use the old external outhaul for the flattening reef. The purpose of the flattening reef is to pull out the shelf foot which you must have. You are removing the depth of the lower pocket. The cunningham will remove some of the upper pocket.

I hope you can make it to the 2005 Nationals in Wichita KS, I have never seen a 25 come close to anything other than another 25. It sounds like you would have a serious shot at National Champion.

New bottom last year certainly helps...Maybe next year for the Nationals(??). I've had bad experiences trailering her so tend to not take her out of Lake Norman.

You are right, I should/could just use the old external outhaul but was wondering if there was/is a better way. I'm not at all sure that my external outhaul is the best configuation I can have just for an outhaul.
