It is official. Fleet 94 is offering a "JUST for FUN" class at Nationals next month in Portland, Oregon for those boats with skippers who aren't interested in racing. We don't want you to stay away!
The relatively low cost of the Regatta/Rendezvous will remain the same, since fees are going to shirts, moorage, food, drink and the like, but there will be NO serious racing with this fleet. There is a Beer Can "Free Bowl of Soup" round the bouy affair on Friday evening to help the Oregon Food Bank that can certainly be part of the activities, but nobody keeps score.
Alternatively, we will suggest and organized some sailing activities for you that involve boat handling and "Rendezvous" type activities "JUST FOR FUN"..."Boat Tag" was suggested with a nerf ball "You're IT" signal tossed at the main, etc. You won't miss out on the socializing, you'll be part of the action, but free of the "competition" part of things. We have a trophy assigned for the "Winner" of the "Had the Most Fun" category, Bring water cannons! Please contact me ASAP to register your interest in this fleet.

Great idea! Unfortunately we're on the wrong coast so we won't be there, but this sounds like something I'd be interested in since I'm not into racing.
I wish you were closer as well. I understand not being into racing, but I will almost guarantee you that if you ever try it a few times and have any measure of "encouragement", you stand a good chance of getting "hooked". Racing has made me a FAR better sailor in the last few years than I ever would have been had I stuck just to cruising. And I LOVE cruising! But I can get there a whole lot quicker now, with a lot more savvy and confidence than before. No expert yet, but I am learning!
Besides, if the National Regatta comes to your area...don't stay away because you don't race...just show up and "CRUISE FAST!" I wish more left coasters had that mentality. We could have had 40 boats at this event this year! Still tryin'.
