I asked questions about changing a switch on my DC panel and got some helpful responses, as always. I was looking at some switches in Home Depot and there were various ratings on there. Can someone tell me if there is a specific amp rating I need? I am also not certain of the size and I wonder what is the difference between the switches I looked at which cost $3 and the ones at WM that cost $10-$15. Thanks.

Unless you plan to install a heavy duty stereo or place many concurently used items on the same circuit, you will not need anything over 5 amps rating, 10 amps at absolute most. One exception would b a voltage inverter. If you plan to use a voltage inverter, these can draw alot of current, I would reccomend some sort of breaker for an inverter. A switch is rated for instant current, that is to say switching on a circuit with a draw of 10 amps at the instant the switch is thrown. They are stable for much more than thier rating when increasing current on an already closed circuit.
The diffeence between a switch from Home Depot (also look at Radio Shack, huge selection) and West Marine? None. Except for the WMMU (West Marine Mark Up.)
Many many things are marketed as "marine" when they actually are no different, except perhaps they come in white, with teak trim
I bought my switches at Radio Shack, after moving the entire panel from behind the sink. The RS switches came with tiny notched washers labeled ON and OFF in red; makes the whole set-up look more professional. They're rated for 3-5 amps and were a few bucks each.
