Yesterday, I asked North Sails for a quote on a 170 genoa. Much to my surprise, the quote came back from "Cruising Direct", which must be some kind of subsidiary. They gave me an amazingly low quote on the sail ($679), which would be made in North Sail's Sri Lanka loft. In addition to having the capacity to make this custom sail, they have Catalina sails off the shelf that are cheaper than the Catalina Direct sails made in Hong Kong.

Does anybody have any experience with the Sri Lanka sails? The Cruising Direct website has some glowing reviews taken from Practical Sailor.

BTW, I bought a fully-battened main and a 150 genoa from Catalina Direct, and I'm delighted with the main and disappointed with the genoa (has a hook in the luff).

Bruce,
I too have a main from Catalina Direct....actually it's from Ullman in Ventura Ca. I'm very pleased with the sail and the price was great. I was researching a new genoa a few months ago and I also got a very resonable quote from Cruising Direct which as you mentioned is a subsidiary of North. Don't know much about them, but if they are using North Fabrics and getting a good write up from Practical Sailor I might give them a try....sounds like a great deal.

BTW: I'm just up the road from you in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I won't be able to launch my boat this season, so if you ever need crew drop me a line or give me a call @ 301-963-4953 Thanks

I have a new 135 from cruising direct. I am very pleased with it except it is cut lower than the 140 it replaced and cuts visibility. Quality and shape seem quite good.
