Very faintly etched just below the hull-deck joint on the port transom... If one is present, I think the the hull number should also be on the brass plate inside the transom.
In addition to being etched on the starboard side of the transom just below the deck to hull joint, the Hull Identification Number should also show up on the title or the Manufactures Statement of Origin.
The full HIN is on the starboard side of the transom...the manufacturer's data plate (on my former boat) contains the word Catalina and the boat # (sail #). The title incorrectly contains the only the sail #.
I have both the plate inside the cockpit and the etched on the top of the starboard side (also on mthe title for the boat). Plates can be removed, so the official spot for the HIN is the one on the hull.
