Hi everyone. Spent all weekend Polishing the gelcoat. Just wanted to share my experience. In the past I have used the 3M products (Restorer and Wax) and was having limited sucess on my C25. So halfway thru the second side, my wife threw down the buffer in anger at the horrible inconsistent finish we were getting (OK it was me who threw the buffer down, as she looked at me confused as always) and went to WM to buy the best polish they had, cost no object. Yes, I am a big spender on $25 polish!!
I purchsed the Macguires "one step compound" and, what a difference! I had no idea the hull was that color!! Night and day difference between the 3M stuff! I have used the 3M in the past w/ good results on other boats. Now I have to re-buff the other side w/ the new stuff, but it will be worth it.
I don't know if different gel coat responds uniquely to different compounds, but I reccomend the Macguires to anyone!
Thanks for the tip. I put my boat in the water before I could polish the deck. I only got the hull done. What color did you get? Tan? What do you use on your non skid?
I've spent more time experimenting on this topic than I care to say, but, I found that different compunds give different results based on the the torque and speed of the polisher, in addition to the type of pad you use.
Now those guys who use Poliglow, they have fun ! <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> We cannot fathom the subject being discussed! Waxing a boat is like using cotton for sails, anachronistic at the very least. Does the wax come with a hair-shirt and a cat-o-nine? Any wife that discovers Poly glow or Vert Glass after being forced to help wax a boat has grounds for domestic homicide.
