Greetings all, in about a month or so I am dropping the mast on our Hughes H25. I am going to mount VHF antennae, Windex and all around light. I am looking for pictures of mounts, ideas, brackets, recommendations for lights, in short any info that may keep me out of trouble as I try to fit all of this in the end of the stick
my only comment is that I put a lot of effort into having a separate Windex light and anchor light. Extra hot lead, extra switch, phooey. Now I just have them wired together.
When you buy your Windex, there should be a mounting kit displayed right next to it in the store, consisting of a length of aluminum tube 1/2" diameter x 12" long and a bracket. This kit is to hold your Windex out and away from the mast so the wind vane can turn freely without hitting the VHF antenna, anchor light, or other stuff you may have mounted on the mast truck. I assume the "all-around" light you are talking about is an Aqua-Signal Series #25 anchor light. This too should be purchased with a mounting stem and bracket to hold it up. There are two brands of VHF antennas made for sailboat masthead mounting, from Metz or Shakespeare, and either of these should come with an "L" shaped angle bracket to facilitate fastening the antenna's loading coil to the side of the mast. Don't forget to drill the hole for the antenna cable at a downward angle through the side of the mast, so that the cable doesn't have to bend at a sharp angle as it penetrates the mast below the loading coil. And be sure to deburr all sharp edges around that drilled hole.
