Leave Mission Bay at Dawn, Sunday Aug. 1

Meet in Catalina Harbor Aug 5

Santa Barbara Island adventure, Aug 6 - 8

Pick up families (or take Ferry) LA to 2 Harbors Aug 9

Week exploring the Catalina front side Aug 9 - 13

Drop off families (or take ferry) Aug 13

Catalina circumnavigation and downhill ride home Aug 13 - 22

Back to work for another year, Aug. 23

Don't forget to watch for the [url="http://skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/meteors/article_1289_1.asp"]Perseid Meteor Shower[/url] the night of August 11th! I wonder just how dark the skies will be at Isthmus Cove? Should have a really good unobstructed eastern horizon!

I don't know how bright the moon will be, but visible stars are infinitely more numerous there compared with anywhere on the mainland around here. However, from the stringline the eastern horizon may be a bit obstructed by the island itself.

hey, lets go anchor at Rippers or Lava Wall that night, get away from all lights and have a clear view east.

The eastern horizon is probably visible from Avalon, but the lights from town...
