With all the discussion on steering links etc. I have noticed that my motor will not turn to port very far due to the bracket on the motor that held the control arm. The arm was taken off when the pedestal was installed. Has anyone added a motor mount to move the motor farther aft on to a motor mount? Will this cause any siginificant fore and aft balance problem?
Jay, I have a fixed position motor mount that my dealer installed on the transom behind the spot where the boat was designed to have the motor. I haven't noticed any balance issues and I haven't had any steering issues either! Works like a charm... Willy
I do not understand the necessity of removing the motor tiller to install a pedestal, but if you remove the upper starboard screw on the metal plate where your motor mounts it will allow you to slide the motor to starboard about one inch. I had to do this with my new motor and it turns lock to lock with the tiller up all the way. Just remember to fill the screw hole with 5200 to keep out the water.
Here is a link to a topic in the General Forum that has discussions on this topic. Check out page two photos and you will see how much I was able to move the engine to starboard just by removing the upper screw.
Anyone ever put a outboard storage bracket on their 250 for a dink? Since we have only the pulpit seats on stern and a tiller ead center(those of us without wheel)wondering if anyone ever hung one off seats? Any other ideas?
