Anyone replace theirs lately?

The tang bolt on mine is thoroughly frozen. Before I put too much whoopie on it, I wanted to find out where to get & how much for a new one.

Wish the PO knew about never-sieze.

FWIW, mine has a ss machine screw that passes through the cap and has a nut with the nylon locking ring. If yours threads into the casting itself, consider drilling it out.

I finally decided that discretion was the better part of valor and ended up grinding the head off and drilling it out. The corrosion in the aluminum had it locked in so tight I couldn't tell if it was threaded or not. The new bolt isn't!

First thing to check off the 'fixed' list for this maintenance cycle. Midsummer is really the sailing 'doldrums' on Humboldt Bay so I'm gonna be on the hard for a few weeks.

Hi all,

A lesson to all us macho types.

Next to me was another C25. Its boom end-fitting was damaged, the tang broken off.

One of the gals that owned it asked me and my Buddy Paul for ideas to remove the end-fitting. We suggested hammered impact wrench (that just messed up the phillips-head). We suggested heat and Liquid Wrench (that just made a smell.) Finally, we suggested she remove the boom and cut off the last half inch to clear the screws, then drill and tap the remaining piece of cast aluminum to have something to get purchase on, then heat and Liquid Wrench some more and a lot of patient tapping.

Instead, Lisa kept up with the hammered impact wrench until the heads broke off the screws. Then she simply used a punch and popped the SS screws through the aluminum casting. The end fitting tapped right off.

The new end casting and the new SS screws covered any punch marks. (I like the double tang on the new casting.)

She showed the way. I replaced my end fitting with a new one from
CD, About 30 bux I think. I just skipped to hacksawing off the screw
heads, punched them through and put in slightly larger screws. No problem.
