My sqelch of my ray 45 stopped working. I can send but cannot receive transmissions. Does anybody have a idea what could be causing this? I went on the Raytheon web sitebut but could only get their new models. I don't have the manual for the radio, which might help me trouble shoot my problem.
The most likely problems are: 1. the squelch control potentiometer has failed internally. 2: Some other component on the printed circuit board inside has failed. 3: The speaker has failed (does any sound come out of the speaker at all?). 4. A soldered wire connection has broken somewhere inside (least likely problem). Unless this was an expensive radio to begin with, like $500 or more, it is probably not worth trying to fix it, since you can get a brand new VHF, that probably has more features than your old one, for under $200. I bought a Standard Horizon "Eclipse" at West Marine last winter for $149, this unit scans all the channels and has both a "16/9" and "channel up/down" button on the mike. The next model up had all that plus the Emergency GPS position interface for about $50 more.
