I just noticed three new icons on the "Format" bar ... the last three on the right ... I hope they haven't been there forever, 'cause I just now saw them.
They are "insert code," "insert quote," and "insert list." The second two seem pretty straight forward, but what is the purpose of the "insert code" icon? How is it different from the "insert hyperlink" icon?
Thanks for your help.
Edit ... 'anyone home?

They have been there for as long as I can recall, but take that with a box of salt... I don't pay much attention to things like that.
I'll take a guess that the hyperlink displays that info that you type in as a url, i.e. a web address, and the code allows you to put in your own html code... say for rotating letters or some other "action," for the tech savy folks here.
An email directly to Spike might render a quicker response tho....
Buzz, they have been there since the forum upgrade last year.
I don't know the function of the code either, but suspect it is used if html code is opened on the forum. The advantage would be it would be much simpler to copy post from an html editor which would allow for personal fonts, etc. Some advantage of that is personal editors also have spell checking, etc. but html open also has some risk.
A related query for Spike is the use of the format mode... I prefer the Prompt rather than the Basic and it always takes me two extra clicks. No big deal unless others also feel this way and the forum software allows a default change. Another advantage of the change would be that it would tend to curtail the posting of long url's in trade for a url name, which would help solve the screen size issue that requires the painful need to use the sliding bar to read all post in the thread.
The other real big pain is that a code insertion defaults to the end of current text rather than the current position of the prompt. If an option to set that exist... I would strongly argue for a change. As it is now, to set something within the document, the code has to be set at the end and then cut and pasted from the end of the document to where its wanted rather than at the curser position where its wanted.
The last issue is screen size... I'm not sure we are not missing something here either in the forum settup or the way we use it. It seems to me that there ought to be a method to limit picture size to avoid the same problem as outlined above with the window getting oversized by a long url or picture. Maybe a visit to the Snitz site can get some answers about this.
Thanks for the explanation. I also concur with your ideas to set the default for links to "prompt," and to change where codes are inserted ... both changes would be nice, if they are possible.
As for the photo issue ... I haven't complained about the large photos, because I really like seeing the photos (the old cliche, "a picture is worth a thousand words" is absolutely true). On the other hand, it is REALLY annoying to have to use the slide bar and slide the text back and forth in order to read every sentence of a thread. It would be a big improvement if there were some way to automatically limit the size of photos so scrolling back and forth isn't necessary.
Buzz, part of my question I've an answer for....that is the problem of the insertion going to where the prompt is... that is what happens on the Snitz test forum page when I use the editor there...
I've not gotten access yet however to post to see if they have the screen size problem for a long url... my old log in didn't work and I've not gotten new log in yet but will test it.
At least we know that the problem with the insertion defaulting to the end rather than the prompt can be either changed or fixed by a newer version of Snitz... our version in use is 3.4.03 and the current release is a 3.4.05 but I'm not sure if the fix for this is a settup issue or a version issue.
Will let you know about the screen size issue when I have an answer.
