A couple issues ago in Sail magazine a reader asked a question regarding what material to make a cockpit awning out of. The response from Don Casey was use Sunbrella or canvas BUT don't use sailcloth. The reason being that while you are shaded from the sun you will not be protected from UV exposure. Now my question.......since I have already made an awning out of an old sail and don't want to scrap the thing....how can I protect the material and folks underneath? There is a product available from Sailrite that is called 303 Protectant that claims to UV protect fabrics it's applied to. Has anyone used this stuff and can offer feedback? Does it make sense that if I treat the awning it will be UV protected? In Ohio this UV thing wasn't such a big deal but since moving to Las Vegas it had taken on new meaning. Thanks for the help......Nate
