I am hauling out Monday, and have some cracks in the gelcoat near the gudgeons. I have reinforced them from the inside with glass and epoxy. However, the PO looks like he took a swipe with epoxy to fill in the cracks on the transom, and did not paint over it. I was wanting to fill with gelcoat to avoid painting, is it possible to sand the epoxy out and then cover with gelcoat. Every gelcoat repair kit I saw says that you should not use it over epoxy. What to do. thanks in advance. Dan 86 FK TR
I know very little but one thing I do know is you will not be able to match the gelcoat color, it is doubtful you will gain anything aesthetically. Go sailing.
I got the gel coat patch from catalina direct. worked very easily and looked good. To me the color matched perfectly. But I'm easy to please, especaialy when it come to my Catalina 25
I also used the Catalina specific gelcoat material(got mine at WM). While it wasn't a perfect match, it is very acceptable and most likely much better than any kind of paint or nothing at all.
