Careful is something everyone should be with 6000+ lbs. attached to their bumper. ;) As you noted balance is definitely the key, in addition to making sure the trailer travels level, i.e. correct hitch height. The 25 SK is 4500#, plus just over 1000# for my trailer(EZ Loader). Add about 500# for the motor and assorted gak and that's about 6000#. The Jeep's tow capacity is 6500#, so pulling it is not a problem. Obviously the wheelbase and light weight of the Grand Cherokee are it's drawbacks for towing purposes, but at anything under 65mph (about as fast as I'd like to drag a 25' sailboat behind anything), it handles it just fine when set up properly. But the light weight and size are exactly what makes it a great everyday car for someone like me who doesn't want to build an outbuilding to house their tow vehicle. Braking has never been an issue at all since the surge brakes do most of the work.
Since I tow long distance only a couple times a year, I decided to go with a good all-around vehicle. One of the few times my wallet HASN't been the victim of overkill.
