Our crusing director for the club decided to make a trip after the last race. Should be cool, going to the delta around Stockton CA. This means pulling the boat out. I went late this morning to get the job done. Trouble was the wind was blowing and who wants to take the boat out in those condidtions. I had a nice solo sail, a car club had their annual show so they had some nice oldies blastin. Wind got lite and then came up again. Beautiful. Called the admrial to see where she was. Said she was about to head out but was bringing her dad and and couldnt sail. OK, I headed in so that she wouldn't feel so bad seeing me out there having fun.
When I got to the ramp I thought hey you need to check out that marine head that doesn't work. Read the directions and see where I have been going wrong. The last person to use it many moons ago got it plugged up with something. Got the flushing part to work so I tackled the plug. Not bad, went right on through with no problem. success
A couple of guys from the club backed the trailer in for me while I snugged the boat up. I use the jib sheet wench. a rope from a stern cleat goes foward around the outside of the boat, around the stem of the trialer and back to the wench on the opposite side. Works great, no bow eye on the front so I came up with this method.
Got everything loose stored and ready to lower the mast. Oh I needed my tool box so I whent to the V berth to get it. WHAT IS THIS PUDDLE OF DISCOLLORED WATER, and how did it get here when I'm not even in the lake.
Scooped up the water. left to wash hands adn have lunch with the admrial at the club house. Back to work, the puddle is back. OH did I mention there is no pump out at our little lake, I have a waste cady I got from W. M. at home. Scoop it up and get back to work again. Every time I lower or raise the mast I try something different to see if I can speed it up. Problably should just stop the little breaks talking with freinds passing by. This time I decided to leave on the shroud rolles on the upper stays. This cut a lot of time out. Having the 5' PVC pipe on the shrouds does a great job of helping keep the mast centered too. Another bonus I found leaving these pipes on is that they contain the wire I would normally have to coil and attach to the mast in a much neater fashion than usual. This is something that will stay in the procedure. I'm a little leary of it though I have to check to make sure there are no kinks later. Got the lowering procedure done in just under 2 hours at my leasurly pace. I think if I really ment it I could get it done in about an hour.
Got home and cleaned out the tank and sopped up the mess. The admrial was kind of miffed when I went to take a shower instead of coming in for dinner, but said that's OK when I reminded her what I was doing. I think that the rebuild kit I got for the head pump will have to be finally used. Here's hoping that this will solve the problem.

I had a couple of wonderful sailing days in the Delta last winter when I had the boat at Owl Harbor, and I may take the boat back there next year. Many of our club members are getting really discouraged with Folsom Lake Marina, which has had to shut down prematurely due to low water level 4 or 5 out of the last 12 years. Owl Harbor is about the same distance and drive time from my house as is Folsom Lake, and has electricity and water at the slips - Folsom Lake Marina doesn't. Only downside of Owl Harbor is it doesn't have a launch ramp or hoist; the nearest public ramp is 8 miles downstresm at Brannan Island State Park.
