Hello Mates,
My wonderful '85 C25,SW,SR almost looks like a million bucks if it were not for the oxide on the rub rail(the tan plastic). Short of
replacing, does anyone have a fantastic rejuvination story?
May Jean the hurricane not end up in your back yard! Me thinks it's
my turn in North Carolina.
Thanks, Capt'n Billy

No miracles to report here... the various automotive products I've tried like Armor-All, (yada) will make it look better for a few weeks at best.

My "miracle cure" was to rip off the old tan (ugly as H) rubrail and buy new from Catalina. I bought the grey colored rail because I thought it looked better than tan. They sent me around 55 feet of it which left me with maybe 4 feet now hanging in the shop....need a short piece?
Now that is "browning out" in a few areas facing the south since it sits in the sun in a slip. So I need to clean it soon.

If/when you do replace the rubrail use 303 protectant to keep it looking good.

Billy:

I could never really get the rubrail on my '85 clean so I replaced it this summer. It was really easy and inexpensive. You can get them from CD. Do it while it's still warm. In cold weather the rubber stiffens up and is hard to work with.

Billy,

On my 250 I periodically take a fine steel wool pad and spray it liberally with 'Simple Green' and then rub the 'rub rail.' It takes all of the goop off of it very easily and leaves it looking like new. Depending on how humid and warm it's been I have to do it every three months or so.

I use Bon Ami on my rub rail. It had lots of grease, dirt and the like on it, and after I used the Bon Ami, now the rail looks as new!

Try Dupont No7 rubbing compound, a dry rag and serious elbow grease. I've cleaned up a couple of pretty ugly toe rails this way.

Good Luck,

Someone mentioned using "Goo-gone" on their rub rail and were very pleased with the results. I'm intending to try it, but I'm dealing with a broken rudder, so rub rail rejuvenation as dropped behind the backburner.
