Well October 1st. is here and the Corp of Engineers draw down the lake starting today :-(. The season is over for Selah and it is time to begin hibernating in the woodshop and begin making a rocking horse for my grandaughter. This is the second retrieval I have done with the wing keel. This year I added a new spare tire with a holder that also serves as a roller when I "cable retrieve" the boat. Everything worked out fine, the only problem being without a keel guide it is very difficult to center the boat on the trailer. Anyone out there with a wing that has solved this problem? Upgrades for next year will be a new bottom paint job, re-wire the boat and add 2- six volt golf cart batteries, new carpet, and a new frame and windows for my dodger. I also hope to remove the trailer axles and sandblast the axles and add new brakes to all four wheels. We will see how much I actually get done! Fair Winds to all of you that can sail all year, I am insanely jealous!!!!

Nice trailer!

I can empathize with you. My season is down to the last week or two, but for me its kind of a good thing. The off season allows me to get reaquainted with my family!

Hi Bruce,

I agree with Don ... 'nice trailer ... 'nice EVERYthing!

This year I added a new spare tire with a holder that also serves as a roller when I "cable retrieve" the boat. - Bruce

That is exactly the kind of thing I want to install on my trailer. Do you have any particulars? Where did you buy the tire mount? How does it work? 'Any photos up close?

I like the idea of a rope launch ... it just seems easier and less expensive than a tongue extension. I'm going to have to install one or the other ... 'last time I hauled my boat out using my buddy's F-250 diesel, I had to hook my 4-cylinder, 20-year old Toyota pickup to his front bumper and pull him and my boat and trailer up the ramp to a point where he could get traction ... it was quite a site!

Anyway, any info/photos you've got of your spare tire gizmo would be great ... thanks!

Buzz: Thanks for the interest in my launching system. This is the third C25 I have owned (2 fin keel and 1 wing) and have put this style of system on each trailer. I have found it is much easier on the truck and the driver if the truck remained on top of the ramp, so I had a 10,000lb capacity cable made 30' long to connect the trailer to the truck ($20 for cable). On the first two boats I owned I bought a 12" dia. wheel/tire combo. On this trailer I bought a full size wheel to double as a spare tire for the trailer. I then purchased a spindle/hub assembly and some square tubing to act as a carrier for the spindle ($50). Then after a visit to a local welding shop (where I also replaced the tongue jack) everything was ready to go. The system works great and keeps the stress of being on the ramp to a minimum, it also allows the trailer to get deeper in the water which makes retreival easier.

That is an excellent solution! I was wondering how you lowered the spare to put it in contact with the ground when you were ready to launch ... welding another tubular bracket underneath the trailer tongue is a perfect example of the KISS principle.

I saved your photos ... I'll use them as my "blueprint" ... thanks Bruce!

So, now there's something to look forward to... Bruce, that "boatport" is something else, too! Monday, I'm taking Passage to the marina where she'll take her winter nap. Then, hopefully, to a new home next Spring. Meanwhile, my kayaks can still get me out on the water on a nice day--almost a nice as sailing.

Dave: Actually the "boat port" was built while I owned a fin keel C25. We thought "wouldn't it be great if we could fit our boat UNDER the carport".... the next thing I knew we were driving to Salt Lake City to pick up our new wing keel. The boat needed lots of work, but little by little she is getting to the condition that I like to see her in. Now if I could just figure how to get her bottom done with all of those rollers!

Great idea for the spare tire and tongue wheel. I am a little reluctant to tell you about a trailer I set up with a tractor seat for a fin keel C25. I have a Easyloader with 64 rollers where I paint what I can then hook up to the pickup and position the boats stern to an anchor point (tree) with a come-a-long and move the boat back slowly by releasing the trailer winch and take up with the come-a-long until the unpainted bottom is exposed. You could also block the trailer besides hooking it up to the pickup. Have done this several times on my 79 Cat25. Jim S
