I managed to secure a kitchen pass for Friday and made tracks for Annapolis and the US Sailboat Show. Since this was my first time at the show, I was all atingle as I waited in the que for the gates to open. I'm sure many of you have attended this fine sailboat show and can attest to how much stuff there is to see. I tried to "proceed in an orderly fashion" but found myself darting all different directions as something new caught my eye. I had to restrain myself to keep from skipping like a schoolkid!! I wasn't in the market for anything specific so I just wandered and took in all the sights. Soooo many vendors and even more boats to look at. I looked at the Catalina line-up.....snickered as I looked at the Hunter offerings and salivated at the IP's, Tartans and Sabres. Shook hands with Gary Jobson.....Bob Bitchin...and Nigel Calder. I talked with the folks at Sunsail to see if I could score a "boatshow" price on my upcoming charter in March..no luck but I got a couple Sunsail t-shirts and tokens for some free beers just for trying. The highlight of my day was meetng Dave Sire and Dave Holtgrave and sitting down to share a beer with a couple fellow Catalina owners. We sat on the upper deck of the Fleet Reserve Club and took in the sights and sounds of the Boat Show while sipping a cold brew and talking sailboats. What could be better! We parted ways but not before Dave Sire (Bubba) offered to take me sailing Sunday. I jumped at the chance and yesterday we had a wonderful sail abourd his C250 on the Chesapeake. The winds were great as we sailed almost all the way up to Annapolis and back. Thanks so much Dave...I really enjoyed the sail. So my first Annapolis Boat Show was a two-thumbs-up weekend. I can't wait for next year and look forward to another daysail with "Bubba" before the season ends.
I tried.......forces more powerful than I (they do exist) managed to keep me from attending...my accountant is breathing a sigh of relief. (Still need a liferaft and a steering vane.)
