My 2004 Honda 9.9 has a threaded female opening on the port side of the block where a fiting for a flush adapter goes. This has a female garden hose fitting where you can screw in a garden hose & flush the salt residue from engine after use.
While not a big hassle, do any of you Honda folks know if its safe to leave it screwed in vs. removing it after each use?
Thanks

Hmmm, must be a new thing...my 2001 did not have it, or I never noticed it... I did read the book. I used the ol' two cup with clamp spring over the intakes type device.
My question is, is there normally a plug in there? Is it open to the cooling system? I can't see that not affecting the performance. But it's hard to form an opinion from where I'm sitting.

The brass fitting that screws in is optional--dealers have them. I suspect the cowl doesn't fit over the installed flush fitting, and I don't know the consequences of leaving it installed with nothing connected while running the engine.
Dave has it right, at least for the earlier sales of the 2001, the flush adapter is an add on item. Seems like it cost me around 15 dollars but shipping and handling almost doubled that so try and get it from the dealer at the time of motor purchase.
Once screwed in, it clears the cowl without problem and can be left in place.
The one I have does fit inside the cover with about 1/2" clearance. The dealer I bought it from told me Honda says it won't fit. Go figure.
There is no plug in the port. I guess the valve is spring loaded or the pressure from the circulating water holds it shut when the engine is running
I can't tell if the fitting holds the check valve open or not when it's screwed in. The dealer does not know for sure & is going to check his manuals. In the meantime I guess the ultimate test would be to screw it in, leave the cover off, fire up the engine (in the water) & see what happens. If water squirts out of the valve or the water from the cooling circuit outlet port has a lot of air in it the check valve is open.
I have a 2001 Honda 8hp, XL shaft, elec start motor. I purchased the bronze flushing thing you're talking about. It is fine to leave it screwed into the block. The check valve keeps water from exiting, but allows forced water in. I cut mine off so that only about 3/4 inch was left, and installed a hose over it, looped around, and brought it out the front of the motor by the 12V cable. At the end is a plastic quick disconnect hose fitting. So, when back in the slip, I push the garden hose onto the quick disconnect thing and flush. Simple and easy.
Thanks for the clarification on the check-valve. Interesting modification for the gizmo. Obvious questions: Type/size of hose used, clamps used, brand & possible source of quick-connect fiting?
