I just inherited 4' of T track and a ring car for mounting a SpinakerWhisker Pole. Are there any recommendations on what size screws to use, machine thread or self tapping? Is ther anything on the fron side of the mast that could be damaged if self tapping screws were used (electrical conduit, haliards etc)?
Greg, the pvc conduit in the mst is slightly off center so that screws in the very front of the msst will not be a problem. I used a tap and chose fine thread screws to mount my track but I think self tapping screws do ok in a thickness such as the mast. The other option is rivets which work well as well. Whichever is chosen, be sure to coat with an anti-oxidation agent to keep the dissimilar metals from causing electrolisis.
