Once in a while I get to eat my cynical view of the world. Today for instance.
Big boats come with big outboards with the drive train and cowling removed. The remaining engine is crudely bolted to glassed in four by fours in an area which would make a great work shop/storage. Additional space is sacrificed to a fuel tank, and then there is the prop shaft which goes through a hole in the hull, which because of the turning of the shaft is a precarious setup to keep water proof. Finally the cooling also has to come through a hole in the boat. First thing it goes through is a strainer. This has a lid with a big rubber seal to keep it from leaking. After a decade or so the seal has compressed and has formed a memory of the sealing ridges, and won't seal very well anymore. (Kind of like the seal on the opening port in the head of a 250.)
Forespar makes the strainer, so I called them to order a seal. The nice man took my name and address and said he'd send me one. I had my credit card in hand, but he did not want it, said "We don't charge for those." Did not even charge for shipping. I am flabberghasted.
That's FORESPAR folks. Go to their web site, buy something from them. People like this need to stay in business.
Yep. Had a hiking stick from Forespar that didn't work right after a season's use. Sent it in for repair. They sent a brand new updated model. No charge. Can't beat that kind of service. Have had no trouble for a couple of years with the new one. Guy gave me a spinnacker pole that was an ancient Forespar pole. Called them and they were very helpful with info on how to cut it down to proper size.
That's a great story! Thanks for the report--I make note of those. Some others are Garmin and Garhauer. They're accessible and treat customers well, and make good on their products.
