Saturday was an absolutely perfect day for a sailboat show. I managed to keep my wallet mostly in my pocket while walking the vendor tents although I came very close to ordering a set of the adjustable interior window shades made by Peek-A-Boo. They look like a great alternative to curtains. Has anyone installed these and, if so, what's the verdict?
The Catalina Owner's Appreciation party was fun. Free food, free beer, a good live band and lots of sailboats...it doesn't get any better than that. (I was hoping for a Catalina goodies drawing or raffle like they've had at other shows but I guess they decided not to have one here.) Don't know who else in the crowd was a regular here on the 25-250 forums but didn't have any way of knowing without making a fool of myself. Next time, maybe pre-arranging an identifier would be a good idea. Then, to top it off, the Lats and Atts party also had free food, free beer, a great band and a really fun-loving crowd (except for 2 drunks that decided to engage in some hand-to-hand combat but that didn't last long.)
They christened the new Catalina-Morgan 44 at the party. If anyone wants to buy me one of those, that would be just dandy. What a beauty. The C28 isn't too shabby either. This was my first opportunity to go aboard a C250 and I was surprised by the lack of headroom. Think I'll stick with my 25. The little boats...Com-Pac, West Wight Potter, Rhoades, Seaward... were just as enticing as the big guys.
Steve....who knows perhaps we rubbed elbows at the Catalina party Sat eve. I fell in love with the C28 mkII!! (I could even stand inside!) What a beauty and the bells and whistles they are throwing in for the 35th anniv. model sure made for a sweet ride ( furling main...hello!)! I was told it sails better than the C-31, which was nice, but didn't make my heart pound like the 28. As for the 250, I have the same model wb that you checked out. No head room. But it is a tradeoff for those who trailer, or sail in skinny water. Boy the seminars were standing room only this year, hope the sponsors took notice. I saw the Peek A Boo shades. Nice but I'm sure they are pricey. Notice the Starboard hatch boards next booth over. Neat idea, you can slide in screen, solid or plexy pieces. It was a great day.
We probably rubbed elbows, especially since it was the only way to manuever on the crowded dock. I saw several very attractive women at the party so I'll just assume one of them must have been you.
A flat tire and the time it took for repairs kept me from attending the one seminar I wanted to catch (Cruising Fla's west coast). Maybe next year.
The Peek-a-Boo things were $239 for all six windows on a C25, which was less than I had expected. There was $30 off that for the show special but I didn't want to spend $200 to save $30 when I wasn't yet sure I wanted them. The hatchboard things were neat too. I've seen those advertised those in the Mainsheet.
We must have seen some of you folks at the show,it was a great looking group! At least it seemed like it after all those Amstel Lights.Ann and I drove over from Texas and spent most of the day Saturday checking out the vender tents and climbing in and out of some great boats. We sail a 250 wk(2002 hull # 597) .The water ballast 250 at the show was very nice but has about 5 inches less headroom than the wing. Our favorites were the 28 with all those 35th anniversary goodies and the 350 that seems so much bigger down below than many larger boats. The Catalina party was a great time, every one seemed to be enjoying themselves,we sure did and we hope to do it again next year.Maybe we will get to meet some fellow 25/250 members.
