Hi folks, While out at the sailing club the other day one of my friends in the club came up to me, really excited, and told me he just purchased an 89 wing. Ever since seeing mine, and of course my babbling about it's virtues, he has wanted one. Greg joins Dwight who bought himself an 89 wing a couple of weeks ago. That's three of us in my club with an 89 wing now, plus Rollo, who bought an 89 wing a couple of months ago, so now I may have enough folks to start a fleet.
Just think, a fleet of 89's. But I'm sure I could get some of the other Catalina 25 owners in my club to turn out.
So who should I talk to about starting a fleet? Is it expensive?
Send the Fleet 7 commodore in San Diego just half a million and I'll send you the "Complete Guide to Starting a Catalina 25 Fleet in San Diego". This should work for you, too I'll even pay the shipping for all that cash.
BTW, Frank...Tennesee is closer to Wichita, Kansas than San Diego. Think you could bring your entire fleet to the nationals? We might get close to outnumbering the fins or swingers.
Half a million is just petty cash for our fleet. You should see our entertainment budget.
I couldn't get the week of the Nationals off next year so I can't go. We scheduled next years vacation slots a couple of weeks ago. I did get the last two weeks off in April and first week of may. We have three members of our fleet going to sail from Key West to the tortugas and Marquesas.
We haven't even officially started the fleet, and already planning trips.
I may be interested in joining you. Don't forget the MUG race here in Jacksonville. 40 mile one way race. Last year it was on may 1. Even if you did not want to splash your boat, you should be able to hitch a ride. Last year was 10-20 kts on the tail and included one awesome death roll underneath a bridge. I have wanted to do the Dry Tortugas thing and that would be a good time for me. I DON't have an 89 but rather an 88 wing with the new interior but older deck . I guess it is a MK3.5.
I'll send you the fleet development manual and then you can handle the development with Frank Hopper, Association Secretary. Good news, but I suspect we would would look askance if the fleet by-laws limited membership to 89 wings, but that certainly is neat.
I was just kidding about the "89 only" fleet. It's just interesting to me that three of my friends bought 89 wings after checking out mine, so I'm partially responsible for polluting their minds. Two of them are selling their 22's to get one. So I guesse the first thing I gotta do is make sure they join our association. They are all pretty smart so that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm curious, did either of your friends buy their 89's in Cincinnati? There's been two for sale here recently, and I think they are both sold. Actually, now that I think of it, one was an '89 and the other a '90.
