Well, I just got back from checking on my Chick-a-pea. But I had to paddle a canoe out to her. There is a vast chasm between hither and yon. It seems a thirty-eight foot stinker had his head up his @$$ insead of "maintaining a proper look-out at all times." Vessel in slip #1 is gone and vessel in slip #2 has no engine. Chick-a-pea is in #29 fortunately.
The story is that he made it back across the river (five miles wide) before his boat started to sink. Upon arriving at his yacht club he called 9-1-1 and said he thinks he might have hit something. Owner of vessel in slip #1 said the COPS were out to take shavings off her boat. She was quite upset.
I will take pictures next time I'm out that way with my camera.
This posting makes me glad I am on an inland lake restricted to trailerable boats, so there's no one else cruising around the lake HUA in a boat bigger than my C-25. Of course, we have to put up with idiots piloting every kind of under-27' powerboat you can imagine, and some of them are so drunk from guzzling brewskis all day out on the lake that they are almost visibly staggering as they try to walk across the launch ramp parking lot to get their tow vehicles and trailers. Want some cheap entertainment? Just sit by the side of the launch ramp late on a Saturday afternoon in July or August and watch one of these beer-o's trying to back down the ramp to retrieve their boats. Imagine a boat retrieval involving the Three Stooges and you have a general idea.

I would think that surveillance cameras will surely make it to the ramps soon. Back in the mid 80's there was a story at our club about a sailboat full of drunks and one went forward to whiz off the bow and NEVER came back. I keep cheap brandy on my boat and little else. No one has ever wanted to drink enough E&J to get snockered, it does serve the preverbal schnapps function though. Most of us are of an age where alcoholism is a familiar tragedy, it is truly rare that a drunk is the least bit funny to me. However, the occasional drinker can get themselves into situations where they need our help, and ruthless teasing the entire next week.

Who's driving the whole rig home? Also, I saw a fatal boat collision near a ramp a few years back--a "drag boat" went over the top of another boat, at a relatively low speed (bow up). I'd bet that alcohol was involved... You don't ever want to see anything like that.
