I know the design of the Catalina 250 really doesn't allow well for a dodger, but has anyone out there tried it or better still done it with success? We have a bimini and it is great, but I love dodgers on larger boats.

I sucessfully designed and executed a dodger for a 250, there is a thread on it here somewhere, but my search efforts have been fruitless....Dave?

I read the topic on your bimini and the picture looked like your boat has a dodger as well, did you get it from the same place as the bimini? Can you give us some info on the dimensions and cost? It looks great, makes the boat look like a real cruiser and not just a day sailer. Does it fit just behind the companionway hatch so it is still easy to get down into the boat when underway?

I am referring to a dodger I built for the 250 I had last year. There is a whole thread here somewhere, but the search comes up empty handed...hence the cry "Dave", as Dave Bristle always seems to get results searching...meanwhile here are the pictures that went with the story:

If it looks like something you want to tackle, let me know and I'll fill you in on the details.

I did some digging and found the original discussion with the pics. Looks good but we do not really want to take on sewing. Was hoping to finf a good source to have one made. Also would like windows, we like the mod tropical sleigh made to add windows to your idea. Looks good.

I think I posted this photo of a 250 with dodger a while back ( maybe in the thread your looking at....unknown owner)

I found this picture on the web and thought some day of trying to take the idea and work it on my 250.

I did end up making a dodger but will have to take a picture after it is set up. I used the pop top frame and the pop top snaps. It worked pretty good during a storm this summer. I also drapped a tarp from the bimini over the space to the pop top bar. We had leakage around the main sheet. The location is tough to overcome. The tarp was wide enough to pull down and have side curtains to keep the rain out while we motored north. Looked tacky, but at least we stayed dry. Wish I had a photo of that set up..... Summer storms in FLorida are something else, two weeks after that cruise, Charley hit most of the locations we stayed at.

Now that white dodger is pretty much what I would like to do. Nice to see it can be done and look so much like a traditional dodger looks. Tim is not as into getting a dodger as I am, he was in the navy for 24 years and claims to love rough weather and spray in his face. I am not of this school of thought and I believe that Tim will change his mind as well after we get caught in a few of those summer thunderstorms that blow up in the afternoon and you cannot get away. They may not last long but they are cold hard and heavy. Any idea where or who made this one and how much$$$ Looks great so it was expensive I am sure.

I found that photo while surfing the web last year (when I was trying to figure out a dodger idea) I kept the photo in a folder, but don't have any info. I'm not sure of the make of the boat, but since it too does not have side foot steps to go foward I felt it was close to our 250 design. ( with some mods).
Now, I'm concerned about the need to get up front fast, so I ended up making my dodger similiar to the one in the 250 photo. Spray still comes up off the bow when motoring directly into the wind, between my dodger and the side curtains, so I have another project with weighted drop down clear windows that hook and will block the cool mist coming back into the cockpit. These will be easy to unhook if the need arose to go forward. (put on the backburner...shore power instal. took most of my time up this summer). Good luck!

DOES your dodger look pretty much like the blue one in the pictures you sent? It looks like it is using the poptop snaps. Would like to see your set up. I saw the picture of your side panels with the windows sewn in on another discussion I found in archives, they turned out good but they do leave that gap to let in spray. Your right about having to go forward and the difficulty with the white one. Have to look at it for awhile and see if there is a way to make it so it can be unzipped to go forward. Hope you weathered all the hurricanes ok, was your boat in the water? Ours was in our driveway, we were more worried about our pool screen enclosure. It made it with just one ripped panel where a small branch hit it, (deeep breath). Thanks for the help and pics :>)

Tis' the season and I'm in the middle of packing and moving ( 5 condos down from me), but if I can find some time this weekend, I'll try to set up my dodger. Mine is not as fancy as the one in the photo. I set the dodger up like a windshield, guess photos would be better to show what I mean.

I did keep my boat in the water (but it was stripped naked) We were very lucky this year! Glad you made out ok, seems no pool cages made it in Port Charlotte, still a bummer to hear about any damage.

I do not envy you, moving is never fun. No hurry on the dodger pics, sounds like you will have your hands full this weekend with your move. This forum is such a great resource for ideas and it is interesting to see all the different solutions people have come up with to solve common problems shared by all. Of course we all have in common love for our c250 :>) May be will see you on the water sometime, we are in Tampa and plan to do some trips down your way. Lots of great islands down there. Hope all has had time to be put back together after the hurricanes. Our boat is Tiller Time, hope to see you on the water :>)
