Hello Mates, I've a friend with a 25, and as a result to a physical challenge, needs to pick a device, or a power lift for his new Merc 8 4-stroke, long stroke. Not much out there promoted for hanging our push off the transom setups. Anybody "eyeballed" or use a product that you would like to endorse, or, caution on for this application? Thanks so much.
Is your friend looking for a lifting davit to mount and unmount the outboard or something to assist raising the outboard after its already on the outboard mount?
Have him check out panthermarineproducts.com. They have an outboard motor power lift for small outboard motors. If I wasn't getting roller furlingthisyer, I'd opt for one of these lifts. my back is getting old.
Thanks Don, Ah, my question was not very clear. Not a davit, but a lift mount, for raising or lowing the engine still mounted on the transom. Power lifts that I have seen have all been located on the transom centerline, with the transom cutout giving clearance for the tilt-in. We have him covered when the engine needs to come off. Thanks again.
quote:
Billy,

I have the original mount and my 4-stroke Suzuki is kinda heavy to lift sometimes. I know my wife couldn't lift it.
I've seen where some of our members have added an extra spring to the mount for additional lift.
I have thought about adding a block and tackle but the extra line might get in the way back there. I don't know.
That Garelick Hydra unit looks pretty nice for us old fa^ts who aint as strong as we used to be. It's always something. BBQ grill LP cookstove rope clutches shotguns for pooping birds now a power lift for my iron genny
You know, at a boat show a couple of years ago I saw a Macgreggor that had a different kind of motor lift on the transom than any I had seen before. The whole thing slid up on a track instead of lifting on the spring mount and tilting the motor. On the one I saw it looked like you didnt bother to tilt the motor, just slide it up the track. I think there was some sort of tackle arrangement to do it. Believe it was probably designed for a heavier motor than we normally use on Cat 25s. Might be worth looking into for your special problem.
That's a good point...check Mac owners, some have 50hp and up on those things...that's one reason they don't sail too well, built for big outboard motors.
