Hi folks, I bought my boat a Christmas present. Sailnet had the Forespar 7-17 adjustable whisker pole on sale last month. I know that several of you recommended it when I asked for advice last year. See, I actually listen to you folks!!! I bought a pad eye with curved base to mount on the mast.
What is the proper height above the deck to mount it? I guesse that I should lay a stick across the lifelines to see what the height it should be to clear the lifelines, but maybe there are other considerations.
I have a Schaefer CF-700 furler with Ullman 135 headsail. I don't know if that is significant or knot. (how punny)
We are planning our trip to tortugas the last two weeks of april, first week of may time frame. No more specific dates than that. I only get 6 weeks vacation per year, and have to schedule them in October for the following year, and only if those weeks aren't taken by my co workers in a big meeting we have. That's why I cant go to Nationals this year. My first choices were for the Tortugas trip, and when the round robin came back to me the week following fourth of july were taken. It's probably a good thing, you wouldn't want me to get in the way in a race since I don't know jack about racing. I also have no patience with racer's whining. In our club we have to serve on race comittee and the one time I did I couldn't believe the whining I heard from some racers. (had to do with not hearing a horn, this guy, with all his shiny Kevlar sails, wanted us all to come back and schedule a new race, right, like that was going to happen)

Duane has a good point. The T-track would be the best option since it can be adjusted for use with different sails. It would come in handy if you were to buy a new headsail (like converting from hank-on to furler) which might have a different clew height.
Frank, I agree with you about the whole race mentality. The Mug race is a great excuse to spend the weekend on the boat with the guys. The only protest I am aware of was a skipper giping about a boat with topless women distracting him! I few of the boats also ran out of beer.
We plan on a May 2 or 3 launch date from the middle keys (specific pt. yet to be decided) and hop down to Key West and then plan about a week out and back to the Dry tortugas. Total time about two weeks to give me time to get back home and pick up the wife for a trip down to Pensacola for the B.E.E.R. cruise on May 20. So far there are three other boats joining us. 1 from CA, 1 from AZ, and 1 from NC. Tom, you met Doug & Mo at last year's B.E.E.R as well as Tom Drake. Justin Pipkorn rounds out the comitted.
Sea Bird Marina is a likely launch place on Long Key.
BTW, I'm taking my full-keeled SC 23 rather than the C25 swinger. The last time I went to DT I got in some big wave action! later, jerry
Guys, I agree level is best but that's gonna change when you trim the head sail. I would go with an adjustable setup if you want optimum. Mine works great. I had a fixed one on the 250 and although it changes from level, its not all that big a deal.
I use a adjustable on my mast but it seems to stay about 60" above the deck, level is the best way. I'm having a great time with the spinnaker aquired last year, and haven't used the whisker much lately.
We have the T-Track on "Leprechaun" on the mast and we have not completely mastered it YET. But Its different. I am interested in learning more about the sailing trip to the Dry Tortugas and the B.E.E.R. Trip ? would love to hear more about that. Thanks With "Leprechaun" on the Hard.......
