No, not THAT day, Indiscipline was hauled this morning for bottom painting. 25 year old cast iron keel with epoxy encapsulation. No blisters, no Catalina Smile, no rust, few bare spots (waterline only). Divers are doing a GOOD job, the bottom was spotlessly clean. Did not really need hydrowashing. Also having her compounded and waxed.

Jim,

Congrats on the health of the boat. Pardon my ignorance, but could you please explain what a "Catalina Smile" is?

The "Catalina Smile" is a crack that sometimes develops on fixed keel Catalinas at the top front of the keel and the hull joint. It wraps around the keel forming a smile.

Here is a link that somewhat describes it.

Don,

Thanks for the info. There probably isn't a lot anyone can do until it happens except keep the keelbolts snug and avoid ramming into anything.

Did you ever hear of a WK developing one?

Looked at the boat today. The bottom job is all done. The compound and wax took about 10+ years of age off her. Hull looks like new! I'll have a couple of photos tonight. Launching tomorrow AM, back in the slip by Friday evening (and I'm about $10 BUs lighter).

That's a great price on the bottom job, what did it include?

Looks great Jim! And that really does sound like a great price for a bottom job. My local yard quoted me something over $2,000 a couple years ago. I guess that what I can expect since they're the only game in town.

I'm heading over tomorrow to check out the results of the bottom job on Sailmates, the eBay boat. After they acid wash her, I'm going to apply Poliglow rather than wax (I'll probably post the before and after pics). Then she goes in the water and, assuming she doesn't sink on the spot , I'll bring her across Florida on the Okeechobee Waterway. Really looking forward to that!

Your yard sure treated you right on that price Jim.

The price is good, I can't do it myself for less when you consider the price of laydays, etc. Job done on time in 3 days. Out Tuesday in Friday, ready for a 3 day weekend of sailing.

PS. showed up to pay the bill and it was only $594.67, how many times have you gone to pay at a yard and it was less than the quote????

Driscolls next door. As a Marina Village tenant you get a 10% discount. They did the bottom job for $595. Call em up. I can motor the boat over for you on a Monday/Tuesday and it will be done Friday. I'll pick it up for you. You can pay by credit card over the phone. George (pronounced Orhay) will do the composite and wax for $250 if you want it. He does this on the side for $cash.
