The conversation on the Global Sailing Distance Calculator thread was going off track so Arlyn and Al I'm startin a new thread that is more on topic.
I think we are planing to splash at the portage lake YC on or about the 22/23 of June and look at a 7/8 day clockwise circuit of the penninsula. So we will run North out of the Houghton ship canal and sail toward eagle harbor, copper harbor we hope to visit the huron islands as well as other harbors. The departure direction will depend on forcasts but due to prevailing westerlies it will be likely that the north shore will get our attention first. I know Al has some UP friends that may join the fleet, and he mentioned that his wife may trail by car to help with provisioning. Al, you may want to chime in on this but there may be a little celebration at the PLYC at the end of the cruise.
I'm trying to update my web site with some pictures of the Isle Royal trip. Something I neglected to load which I may include next time is a small kayak. There were many trails where you could easily portage into some of the lakes within the island. If you have not done so, go to the NPS website and link to Isle Royal. That will give you park fees and regulations. When you enter the park you must register, file a float plan and pay a $4.00 per person per day use fee. You will be given a copy of your permit in a plastic envelope with a twist tie. It either goes on your life line when you are anchored or on a cleat at a dock you may be using. Dockage is "free" except at Rock Harbor which has a very nice modern marina. my favorite was Duncan harbor, where there is a small dock a C25 sk can tie up to. The small campground there has no trail access and is strictly for boat and kayak/canoe use. The entrance to Duncan Harbor is very narrow and will require a sharp lookout and a keen eye on the depth sounder.

Right on target so far. The yacht club is the Onigaming YC. An odd name but it's an indian name meaning "big portage". There is a link attached to my name which will take you to our web site. I hope that we can get some more interest in joining us from Catalina 25/250 skippers in the Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnisota areas. Although not Catalina owners, a few of our club skippers have expressed an intereset in joining the cruise.
