Mmmmmmmm, fresh squid. Reminds me of the many Polynesian fests I attended while stationed at Ft Ord, on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.

Hi Jim, great pics. Those look like Humboldt squid to me. I think they're the largest squid other than the Giant Squid. I hear those Humboldts can kill a swimmer, they'll eat him alive. I went deep sea fishing out of Southport NC last May and the captain of the boat said anyone who fishes in the ocean won't swim in the ocean because they know what's in there. I believed him too. I saw a huge barricude take all of three seconds eat a king mackeral up to the gills that my brother had on the line. It was probably a four foot mackeral too.

The calamari she normally eats won't eat her!
I love it!

Personally, I could live on nothing but food from the ocean.

And a steak as much as I can!
Gotta have my meat!

these squids are all over right now and are even washing up on the beach. My fishing forum has cleaning instructions and lots of recipies. Even though they weigh up to 40 lbs, they are still edible and quite good if they squirt their ink when gaffed, iced after catching, and cleaned properly.

I've been known to squirt my ink when gaffed but that's a topic for a whole different forum.
