I spent Friday night aboard at the dock as the Admiral (sorry Frank) was out to dinner with her sister. I had to do some work in the battery compartment as they had broke loose after the fresh sailing on Super Sunday. The wind was really kicking here all night and I was going to sail to my brothers up river about twenty miles. But it was ten o'clock before I got done and I was tired and cold and the moon had already set. So I hit the sack. But I had to chase my dog off the sleeping bag first. He sneeked back during the night. BTW the new cubby hole work wonderfuly for setting hot cocoa on while reading. I should have brought a heater. In the morning I could see my breath. It was fifty-two according to Weams and Plath. But a pot of coffee and sasuage and eggs warmed things up pretty quick. Brother Dave showed up about nine o'clock. He "wanted to do everything." So I gave him my Basic Sailing 101. But the wind died after sunrise. We drifted in light airs for two hours. The forecast was for ten to fifteen out of the west. At eleven-twenty I looked across the five miles of river and could see it coming. Had to douse the drifter quick because the wind came on with a vengence. We sailed up river (down south) to Green Cove Springs. A very friendly pelican kept up with us looking for hand outs. My dog Mac did not know what to think about such a big bird. David lost my NOAA chart overboard so we practiced gybing and coming about but never recovered the chart. We beat back for an hour and then motor sailed to get around Popo Pt. After that it was a beam reach back to Amity Anchorage. I took some video with my digital camera but it is .mov format and could not downsize it for upload. But for your viewing pleasure here are a couple of still shots.
