As most of you probably know, Bruce Ebling has sold his C25WK Mk. IV, "Selah". The purchaser is a member of my sailing club who does not own a heavy duty tow vehicle, so I offered to tow the boat from Bruce's place in Eugene, Oregon, back to Sacramento (Folsom Lake actually). It was a nice drive, about 1000 miles round trip, with no breakdowns more serious than a lost Bearing Buddy on the trailer. Here are links to two photos of Selah, still hooked up to my truck, right after we arrived. The photos are 1024 x 768, so I am not linking them directly here, as some people on the Forum have complained about horizontal scrolling problems on photos larger than 640 x 480.

It is indeed the shorepower plug, installed by the original owner (two owners before Bruce Ebling, I think). It is a completely stupid location for that plug to have been placed; Bruce told me that when he bought the boat, the plug was completely corroded out from water splashing up on it, and that all the interior shorepower wiring had been removed from the boat. At some point after the plug had corroded out, the previous owner had probably tried to use the shorepower and the short circuit was probably pretty spectacular; lucky it didn't set the boat on fire!

Yes, the lake is coming up quite nicely. Water level had dropped to 391' at the lowest point back in November before the rain season started. The marina has to shut down and everyone has to pull their boats when water drops below 410', becasue the docks go high and dry on the mud at about 405'. Water level was at 428.5' on Feb 11, then it dropped to 426' over the next week and as of yesterday it was back up to 428'. The Bureau of Reclamation and the Calif Department of Water Resources have stated that there is enough snowpack up in the mountains to fill the lake to about 450' by June 1st. 450' is 16' less than full pond, but that's probably enough water to keep the marina operating until boating season ends in November. It's pretty rare to see Folsom Lake reach full pond at 466', maybe one year out of 8 will it get that high.

It's a '98 Dodge Ram 2500 regular cab long bed 2WD with a Cummins diesel and 5-speed stick (a really nice tow vehicle for Catalina 25). It looks small because the camera lens was set to 28 mm wide angle, which exagerates the apparent size difference between objects in the foreground vs. background.
My motivation for doing this boat haul was about 30% doing a favor for a friend, and about 70% simple desperation to get out of town for a day or two. I've been so swamped with school work since last August, and then spring semester before that, that I haven't been anywhere or taken a vacation since September of 2003, when I drove to Virginia to buy my '89 WK. I had to cancel my San Juans trip last July because my wife went in for major surgery at the beginning of summer, so we never had a vacation last year at all.
The trip to Eugene was a nice two-day getaway, the only sour note being that there has been some kind of spasm in the fuel supply in just the last week or so; diesel fuel was $1.99 when I last filled the truck the weekend before last, then coming back from Eugene, I had to pay $2.34 in Roseburg, OR, and $2.30 in Williams, CA. I don't recall ever seeing diesel fuel skyrocket like that, 34 cents in two weeks! If it keeps going like this, my next car will be electric and to h--- with the oil companies!
