Just spent a week in Playa del Carmen Mexico. Most every morning I was up at 6 to take pics of the sunrise. (Fairly good feat after trying to drink all the tequila they had in town every night) It's not often I get to take sunrise pics on the Caribbean so I had to take advantage of it! Someday I hope I'll be able to take them from my sailboat any day I want. Anyway here are a few samples of the way too many photos I took of the event. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.
This was a couple of cruisers out just after dawn headed south.
Really nice pictures. Are you 100% satisfied with your Canon 20D? Any problems? Just curious. I would like to get one myself, but might have to settle for the Digital Rebel. At least it would be a start and I could upgrade later, using the same lenses.
Charlie, I really like the 20d except for the weight. I've been used to my plastic body A2 and the metal body of the 20 is quite a bit heavier. Not really something you want to be lugging around all day sightseeing, though I did it. I have an older Canon G2 that I carried around at night while we where out that worked fine for incriminating photos but nothing fancy. I think I would go for the Rebel just because its a better all around camera as far as usibility than the 20. Plus its about 6 bu's cheaper!
(edit) I was kinda disappointed when I got to work this morning and saw how dark the photos look on my monitor here. I hope they look better on everyone elses.
While vacationing on the east coast of Florida a fews years back, my wife thought I was nuts because instead of sleeping in every morning, I would get up before dawn, grab my coffee, and walk out onto the beach to watch the sunrise...Ahhh, Life is good!
Very nice pictures. I am the kind who likes to sleep in the morning (when I grab my coffee and go outside, I need sunscreen!) so I appreciate people who take pictures of what I'm missing. Maybe someday I can pay back with night-time pictures.

Playa del Carmen is in the state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan peninsula on the east side of Mexico. I would have loved to get pics of the sunset from there but to get the sun on the horizon I would have had to been in San Miguel on the island of Cozumel every evening and I was doing well just to be outside our condo.
Here's some more...
Here's one of the very rare and elusive Quintana Roo Four Winged Grey Pelican (Quatrosis flytus negro e blanco pelicanos)
And one of the more popular tourist attractions... "The Bottomless Pit" (We never did find the bottom of this hole!)

Did you get to do any sailing or were you hard aground the whole time? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
On the hard the whole time. The only sailboats I saw where the two pictured above and one in Cozumel which looked to be a red hulled C28-30 on the hook about 75 yards out.
