I just checked your profile and found that you are, as I suspected, the same Bryan Beamer who sailed with his dad, Jim, at Brookville Lake, back in the early 1980s. It's great to hear that you are still sailing, and that you have crossed over to the world of Catalina ownership. I hope your dad is well. If so, please give him my regards and tell him that the few of us old timers who are still left miss him on the lake, around the race course and at the picnic tables.
great. thanks for the hint re. getting at the turnbuckle--will do during next free time. i took her out in 15--20 knot winds this weekend, and am happy to report that the three hundred pounds in the v-berth did help. i also experimented with a double reef and 3/4 of my 135% out and was able to keep heel at 12% and reached the greatest speed yet on this boat. i did not realize just how much speed would drop off with excessive heel combined with a really highriding bow. i think with a tightened forestay and third generation rudder, i can hold off going to a 320 for a few more years.--by the way, what year did they switch to the 3rd generation rudder?
I'm not sure about the 3rd generation rudder. I did not know there was one until I read Arlyn Stewart's reply. Going by his reply I must have the second generation rudder. I got my rudder in the middle of May 2001.I was at the Denver boat show in January 2002. I looked at the 2002 C250wk that was on display and it had the same rudder that I got in May. You might check the local Catalina dealer about the 3rd generation rudder.
