I am just beginning to begin the process of replacing my stem head fitting. I ordered the new fitting from CD to find that it is considerably different from the existing one on my boat. I have 1987 boat so ordered the "newer version" but although I realised it had an anchor roller attached to it, the replacement part is completely different, in as a much as it is much longer with bolt holes in completely different places.
I was wondering if any of you had replaced your stem head fittings and could offer any advice.
Glad to see your pictures. The "overbite" on the lower part of the rub rail looks to be nearly an inch and is similar to the one on my boat. When I installed the new stem fitting and anchor roller I had the same problem of either bending the stem or ??. I called the Catalina factory for advice and they suggested a block to go between the stem and the hull. I made one out of 7/8 inch teak and it has worked fine. All the c25's I've seen besides mine and now yours have much less of an "overbite". Perhaps our boats shared the same lightly used mold. Yes, those are drops of rain on the rub rail. The first drops after two weeks of fantastic spring like weather in the PNW in February.
Great series of photos, Frank! And yes, the decks and hulls don't always fit together exactly the same, even out of the same molds. Having the "shoe box lid" fit a bit loose is a whole lot easier to deal with on the assembly floor than too tight would be.
